Tork helping FSC bring sustainability into the classroom
In collaboration with Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) Australia, Tork® Professional Hygiene has sponsored the launch of a new program for primary schools to assist in teaching the next generation about sustainability.
The Future Generations program focuses on bringing the cross curriculum priority of sustainability into every subject – from the Arts to Humanities and English – from year one to year six.
“The opportunity to support FSC Australia with the Future Generations program fits well with our business objectives. We are members of FSC and are dedicated to sustainability – over 60 products in the Tork range are FSC certified. This year we are also looking to increase our presence in the education segment and will be attending a number of conferences in Australia and New Zealand,” said Sid Takla, Executive General Manager B2B Asaleo Care. “As industry leaders, it’s important that we’re able to support our customers with relevant material, such as the Future Generations program.”
The free lesson plans and activities are creative and thought provoking and cover topics including deforestation, ecology and the food chain. The lesson plans offer simple and fun activities for younger children and progress to more comprehensive learning for older students.
Adam Beaumont, CEO of FSC Australia explained, “We consulted with primary school teachers across the country and found that teachers were finding it difficult to incorporate sustainability into subjects other than science. And resources were limited or hard to find. Our team then worked with Deakin University to develop a series of lesson plans and activity sheets that are inline with AusVELS curriculum. Through the generous support of our partner Tork, we could bring this to life.”
The role of FSC is to help take care of forests, their wildlife and the people who live and work within and around them. Beaumont added, “By ensuring these resources are managed responsibly, we at FSC seek to strike a balance between the needs of society and the needs of the forest. The Future Generations program aims to increase awareness of FSC and its role with the next generation.”
